When they started they were two regular 9-5 working parents. Nichole was working in the Mental Healthcare Industry and Francis was working as an engineer. After learning of baby 4’s sensitivity to caffeine and Nichole’s growing sensitivity to dairy, the breastfeeding mom was forced to search for a vegan chai latte to replace her favorite guilty pleasure. Very disappointed that none could be found, Nichole quickly started experimenting with flavors to create her own. After several attempts and tests she nailed her recipe. After sharing with the first tea testers, Francis and their 4 kids, Nichole started sharing with others and they were soon hooked too. Then they shared it with their friends at church. They offered some challenges; “what else you got?”, “what other flavors?” “where can I buy this?” This gave confidence to the business minded couple to share more of their family’s favorite tea recipes. It seemed to attract just enough interest and became just enough work that Francis suggested to start selling the ready made teas. 

Eventually Nichole quit her 9-5 in June of 2021 and began creating and selling tea blends full time under the name Anew Blend. However, after a few selling events it was clear this name didn't fit the brand they were building. In October of 2021 they renamed their tea Teajani. This name better represented the family's blended Kenyan American culture. The whole family continues to work the business selling at farmer's markets, online and in locally established specialty shops.
